Expanding HR Expertise Across the Highlands: Q&A with Tamar Minty, Senior HR Consultant

Tamar has been part of the business since 2019, originally joining Involve HR before its transition into Quensh Specialists Ltd. Having recently returned home to the Highlands, she now plays a key role in expanding our business network and supporting organisations across Elgin, Inverness, Aviemore and the surrounding areas. We caught up with Tamar for a short Q&A to explore her 20+ years’ experience across multiple sectors and her pragmatic approach to delivering HR solutions that work for both businesses and their people.

Quensh: How do you tailor your HR advice when working with different clients or industries?

Tamar: I try to really get to know each client and how their business works. Every industry and team has its own way of doing things, so I make sure my advice fits their culture and day-to-day realities. It’s about combining practical, workable solutions with the right guidance, so it actually makes sense for them.

Q: How do you collaborate with other departments (e.g., operations, finance, line managers) to support business goals?

T: Collaboration is really about keeping the lines of communication open and making sure everyone is on the same page. I work closely with different teams to understand their priorities and challenges, then provide HR guidance that fits their needs. The trick is doing this while maintaining confidentiality where needed—so sensitive information is protected, but everyone has the clarity they need to achieve the business goals.

Q: What are some common challenges you face in your role?

T: I support businesses on a strategic and operational level, adding stakeholder value through increasing employee capability, a key challenge is finding pragmatic solutions that work for both the business and employees. It’s about striking the right balance so that operational needs are met while also supporting and valuing the team—finding that middle ground can be really rewarding.

Q: What are some of the most common misconceptions or issues you’ve seen at client sites regarding HR management?

T: A lot of people think HR is just about policies and paperwork, but it’s really about people and practical solutions. I also see issues when communication isn’t clear, policies aren’t applied consistently, or people aren’t aware of the legal side of things. Usually, just talking things through and having a clear approach makes a big difference.
