Bundy Refrigeration: Leading the Way in Global Green Manufacturing

Bundy Case Study
Background

Bundy Refrigeration is a world leader in the design, manufacture and supply of innovative heat transfer and fluid carrying cooling system components for the refrigeration and household appliance industry. Supplying some of the leading global manufacturers, including Samsung, Electrolux, Danfoss, Liebherr, Whirlpool and LG to name but a few, Bundy’s products include refrigeration tubing, evaporators, condensers, dryers and door warmers, which all form part of its integrated cooling systems.

The company has been in business for over 60 years and has manufacturing sites throughout Europe and Latin America, employing 1200 people.

Due to increasing customer demand and in anticipation of future climate change regulations, Bundy began a group wide programme and commitment to reduce their environmental impact.

Challenge

Bundy was asked to complete a supplier disclosure request on Climate Change & Water Security policies and practices by Electrolux, in which the deadline for submission and associated data was the 28th July 2021.

Solution

As part of this commitment as a forward thinking organisation and to provide assurance to Bundy’s customers, Quensh supported the completion of global CDP questionnaires for both Water Security and Climate Change for 2020.

CDP, formerly Carbon Disclosure Project, is a not for profit charity that helps companies, cities and regions to manage environmental impact.

Extensive analysis of Bundy operations was undertaken to provide a baseline from which to make significant changes to activities in order to contribute towards a better future for our planet.

The information derived from the CDP questionnaires will help to educate customers on the impact of Bundy’s global operations and their ongoing environmental programmes.

Bundy has implemented ISO 50001 in their most energy intensive facilities and are looking at how to implement learnings across their wider global manufacturing plants. This includes establishing “Bundy Green”, a team created back in 2019, with the aim to:

• Reduce direct emissions of fluorocarbons

• Reduce energy consumption

• Develop alternative refrigerants

Having all these positive contributions in place, Bundy asked Quensh to bring these important initiatives together and collate the required information for completing the CDP questionnaire.

Quensh managed this project, supporting worldwide locations to complete submission before the portal closed in July 2021.

Furthermore, our team of experts, led by our MSc Environmental and Sustainability specialist applied their depth of experience in supporting this global project to ensure targets were met and the CDP questionnaire was submitted accurately within the timescale.

This was a great opportunity for Quensh to be involved in a project of this scale to further establish our Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) service offering.

Results & Benefits

The CDP questionnaire was successfully submitted and results will allow Bundy to demonstrate dedication to significantly reducing environmental footprint by understanding, analysing and continuously improving their performance against the CDP scoring system. This ensures Bundy is comparable with Global and European averages for Climate Change, Water Security and Supplier engagement.

Quensh continues to support Bundy with the implementation of ESG related strategies, procedures and performance indicators to strengthen sustainable business practices. This includes the development of:

• Business Risk Framework & Register

• Global Business Continuity Plan

• Policy Documentation including but not limited to:

– Whistleblowing

– HSEQ

– Business Ethics & Conduct
