PROJECT TYPE: Managing Complex Workplace Bullying Investigation
An organisation received a formal bullying complaint under its Anti-Bullying and Harassment Procedure, raised by an employee against their line manager. The complaint included five allegations relating to inappropriate communication, exclusion from meetings, and derogatory comments about the employee’s performance and contribution.
The case was complex due to allegations spanning both documented evidence (emails and meeting invites) and verbal interactions, alongside conflicting accounts between the complainant, manager, and witnesses. There were also potential wider cultural and behavioural concerns within the team, creating a requirement for a fair, impartial, and fully compliant investigation in line with internal policy and employment best practice.
- Escalation to senior leadership to consider formal disciplinary action
- Identification of wider organisational risks relating to management style and team culture
- Implementation of employee wellbeing and support measures
- Recommendation for targeted management training on respectful communication, dignity at work, and anti-bullying practices
